Newport reopened June 1, 2020. All students, staff, and families are so happy to return to our school. On July 1, we look forward to welcoming even more of our community back!
As we emerge from our homes and Chicago begins to re-open, one thing is certain, we love our school and are glad to be back. Newport has made many adjustments to address health and safety while making sure everyone can get back to school! Face masks and social distancing aren’t gonna slow our students’ learning, sharing, and discovering!
Watercolors, tempera, crayons, chalk, clay… Newport students are interacting with all kinds of materials and art forms! During Art Week, June 8 -12th, Newport students were introduced to famous artists, brushed up on some art history, and explored various forms of artistic expression. Our Orange2 classroom did some modern art with tempera and canvas, Pre-K worked on a mural and Teal room students painted still-lifes. Even the Infant classroom expressed themselves with finger paint on cardboard!
Science, technology, engineering and math were the focus of the third week in June for Newport students and teachers!
Students were encouraged to experiment and explore, make discoveries and create solutions! While some activities and projects were designed to promote problem solving and creative thinking, others allowed students the freedom to investigate, and discover on their own!
