To honor Martin Luther King Jr. and in celebration of his accomplishments, Newport Children’s Academy and its students put together a mural to honor this important American hero.

A toddler adds her fingerprint to the heart after choosing a color ink pad to use.

The idea for the mural was a collaboration between program directors. What an exciting way to involve every student and staff member embodying the ideals of inclusiveness and cultivating appreciation for diversity.

A two-year-old class posses with the giant heart after adding their fingerprints.

Titled “Love Comes in Different Colors,” the mural had three major components. The first was a large heart filled with colorful fingerprints, belonging to every student, infants to Kindergarten. The heart was bordered with flesh-tone handprints of varying shades made and signed by each teacher in the school. Finally, a illustrated portrait of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. centered with two of the reverend’s quotes about the power of love.
