January was a busy month at Newport Children’s Academy: We welcomed new students, added three fantastic teachers to our staff, and hosted a variety of events and activities.
Here are just a few of the highlights from January 2017:
Eye Doctor Visit From Dr. Pham
On January 16th, our kids had a visit from Dr. Pham of Blink Family Eyecare. Dr. Pham taught us all about what an eye doctor does and the different parts of the eye, and as a reward for being so good and attentive, the kids were given the chance to try on different pairs of eyeglasses and pose for photos. While we hope our kids’ eyesight will stay 20/20, we have to admit that they looked great in glasses!
Library Visit
Once a month, we receive a visit from our kind friends at the local library. This month, we got a new basket of books (including The Gingerbread Cowboy, which has fast become one of our most requested books at story time), and a librarian friend read us some fun and exciting stories we’d never heard before.
Puppet Show
One of our most anticipated events this month was a puppet show by the Damen Avenue Puppeteers. All children aged toddler and up were able to participate, and the show was a huge success. The kids were mesmerized by the puppets and their stories, and it was easy to tell how much they enjoyed the show by how often they laughed, gasped, and watched in rapt silence. After the show, some of the older kids were even able to go up and touch a few of the puppets, which they very much enjoyed. A big thank you to the Damen Avenue Puppeteers for such a fun and unforgettable experience!
New Teachers
Newport was also very pleased to welcome three new teachers to our staff in January: Melissa Imburgia, Eryn Fallon, and Christina Cuevas. Ms. Imburgia and Ms. Fallon will be spending most of their time in the Infant 1 and Infant 2 classrooms, while Ms. Cuevas will be lending her expertise to the Twos room. All three are gifted teachers and we feel exceptionally lucky to have them on our team.
